🥕 Horse Nutrition

Main Nutrients

The four primary nutrients are:

- Carbs
- Lipids
- Protein
- Sugar

These values can be viewed in the horse’s Welfare tab.

Feed and Supply

Horse feed can be purchased from Reynold’s Grain & Forage Co in Ventura. Players can locate it with /compass.

Feed is sold in larger quantities rather than as a single-use item. A full bag is intended to keep one horse fed for roughly 15 days.

Daily Nutrient Loss

Horses lose 17 nutrient points overnight.

While being ridden, they lose an additional 1 nutrient point per minute.

Choosing the Right Feed

Feed should be selected based on workload and nutritional goals.

Horses in regular work often need intermediate or high-performance blends to offset greater nutrient loss. Horses in light or no work may do well on more moderate options such as growth, senior, or broodmare blends.

Supplemental Feeding

Hay is useful when a horse needs extra nutrients without becoming too full from concentrated feed.

When sugar is low but the horse is already near full, treats can help restore sugar more efficiently. Common examples include:

- Horse muffins
- Sugar cubes
- Peppermints

Welfare and Performance

Maintaining nutrition is essential for strong performance. Horses with poor welfare may suffer major stat reductions and become more difficult or expensive to manage.

Poor feeding can contribute to:

- Reduced performance
- Malnourishment
- Dehydration

Overfeeding

Nutrition must also be balanced carefully. Overfeeding can lead to unhealthy weight gain, which in turn can reduce performance.

Vitamin Deficiencies

Some horses may develop vitamin deficiencies at random. These usually require a course of vitamins purchased from the pharmacy.
